Anyone shopping for a compact SUV in Weyburn, Estevan, Carlyle, Radivlle, or Regina that’s going to spend most of its life on the pavement should check out the 2024 GMC Terrain. The Terrain blends rugged exterior SUV styling, upscale interiors, excellent driving characteristics, and impressive standard safety features to deliver a compact crossover ideally suited to life in the urban jungle.
Four 2024 GMC Terrain trim levels are available, but a couple of upgrade packages are also available to help you configure the Terrain to suit your specific tastes and requirements. The lineup starts with the entry-level SLE and then goes to the Elevation, SLT, AT4, and range-topping Denali. Denali is a name that’s synonymous with luxury, and even though this is the smallest and most affordable model in the GMC SUV lineup, the Terrain Denali lives up to that auspicious reputation.
The base SLE version of the GMC Terrain is front-wheel drive in its standard form with all-wheel drive available. However, the SLT, AT4, and Denali trim levels are all standard AWD models with no two-wheel drive option.
Although the 2024 GMC Terrain looks like a large SUV transformed into a smaller and more manageable package, its many other attributes make it an excellent vehicle for the town and city. Under the hood of every 2024 Terrain is a new 1.5-litre turbo-four engine that develops 175 horsepower and 203 lb.-ft. of torque, which is five horsepower more than the unit it replaces.
The power gets sent to the front or all four wheels through a quick-shifting nine-speed automatic transmission, and this is the powertrain found in all versions of the 2024 GMC Terrain. The turbo-four engine provides the compact Terrain with enjoyable driving characteristics. Still, it also helps to deliver the kind of fuel economy ratings that are often the big attraction of these smaller models. A front-drive Terrain returns 9.7 L/100 km in the city and 8.1 L/100 km on the highway, while AWD models get 9.9 L/100 km and 8.3 L/100 km, respectively.
Although the 2024 GMC Terrain doesn’t qualify as a full-blown luxury model, it appears nobody told the Terrain. The standard features and equipment are excellent at every level, and the all-important infotainment system is one of the best in its class. A 7.0-inch touchscreen is standard in the base model, but the SLT and higher get a larger 8.0-inch unit, and every model has Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility. The AT4 doesn’t represent a massive price increase over the SLE and SLT models, which makes it look like outstanding value for money.
However, if you are considering the AT4, you are then tantalizingly close to the range-topping Denali. The Denali gets a standard 8.0-inch multi-colour reconfigurable driver information screen, adaptive cruise control, Automatic Parking Assist, premium Bose audio, HD Surround Vision, a head-up display, heated front and rear outboard seats, a heated steering wheel, and more.
The 2024 GMC Terrain is an extremely stylish compact crossover SUV that crams an awful lot into a small package.
