It’s not every day that one of the most well-known and popular vehicles in the country is completely reimagined, but even that doesn’t properly encompass what Chevrolet has achieved with the stunning, all-new Chevrolet Silverado EV. It’s not exactly a case of forgetting everything you know about the Silverado because the Silverado EV delivers all the capability and versatility we’ve come to expect from this mighty truck. However, the Silverado EV with its revolutionary all-electric powertrain will bring an entirely new dimension to driving and using a truck around Weyburn, Estevan, Carlyle, Radville, and Regina in the future.
There will be two versions of the all-new, all-electric Chevrolet Silverado EV to begin with which beautifully illustrate the versatility of this exciting new model and how it will appeal to a wider audience than perhaps some might have imagined before Chevy released details. On the one hand, there will be an all-singing, all-dancing, ultra high-spec flagship version of the Silverado EV in the shape of the RST First Edition model, but the other will be an appealingly affordable WT version aimed primarily at fleet buyers.
If you’re assuming that a Silverado EV will be an interesting novelty version of the extremely capable gas and diesel Silverado models that won’t measure up to what traditional trucks deliver you couldn’t be more wrong. The Silverado EV WT will come with an Ultium electric powertrain that develops 510 horsepower and 615 lb.-ft. of torque, while the RST First Edition will be able to boast 664 horsepower and more than 780 lb.-ft. of torque.
And leave your preconceptions about limited range on a single charge of the battery at the door while you’re at it too. GM estimates that both versions can deliver 400 miles of driving range on a full charge of the battery, while the truck’s DC fast charging capability of up to 350 kW will enable approximately 100 miles of range to be added in just 10 minutes based on GM estimates.
Trucks like the Silverado are often judged on their towing and hauling capability, and the Silverado EV certainly won’t disappoint in these vital areas. WT models will initially offer a maximum towing capability of 8,000 pounds and a 1,200-pound payload rating, while the RST can offer 10,000 pounds of maximum trailering capacity and a 1,300-pound payload. And once the initial launch is out of the way, Chevrolet is also going to be offering a fleet model that when equipped with the max tow package will be able to tow up to 20,000 pounds.
And anyone who likes plenty of get-up-and-go from their truck will be delighted to learn that in its available max power Wide Open Watts Mode, the RST will be able to get from a standing start to 60 mph in under 4.5 seconds.
The Chevrolet Silverado EV is set to change the way we think of pickup trucks, but only in a very good way. If you like the idea of a full-size truck with all the capability you need but also one that comes bristling with cutting-edge tech, incredible performance, low running costs, and zero emissions, you’re going to love the Silverado EV.
