When many people in Weyburn, Estevan, Carlyle, Radivlle, and Regina started buying SUVs for daily use in the town and city, many of them were probably a little too big, powerful, and capable for the urban jungle. The 2023 Buick Encore GX is a subcompact crossover SUV that could almost be a vehicular representation of the theory of evolution. It’s the perfect size for the town or city, with a stylish interior, handsome exterior styling, impressive standard safety features, and excellent infotainment.
The 2023 Buick Encore GX is available in three trim levels that perfectly represent this urban dweller’s sensible, functional, and adapted nature. The base model is called the Encore GX Preferred, the only Encore GX model that’s front-wheel-drive in its standard form. All-wheel-drive is available for the Preferred trim level, but it’s the standard format for the rest of the lineup.
The second model in the centre of the 2023 Encore GX lineup is the Select, and the top-of-the-range model in the family is the Essence. You’ll also notice on the Buick website there’s a 2023 Buick Encore GX Sport Touring model. You could mistake it for a different model from the Encore GX, but it’s an appearance package available for all three trim levels.
A big part of the appeal of these subcompact crossovers SUVs is the small footprint which means they’re maneuverable and fuel-efficient. It wouldn’t make much sense to drop an unnecessarily potent engine under the hood, so the 2023 Buick Encore GX is powered by a pair of small-displacement three-cylinder turbo powerplants.
Most of the lineup gets a 1.3-litre turbo-three that develops 155 horsepower and 174 lb.-ft. of torque, which isn’t insignificant for a vehicle of these diminutive proportions. However, if you go for the entry-level front-drive Preferred model, the standard engine is a 1.2-litre turbo-three with 137 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft. of torque. The 1.2 comes mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), while the 1.3 gets a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Despite its undeniable subcompact exterior proportions, the 2023 Buick Encore GX makes the best possible use of its interior dimensions. It’s surprisingly spacious inside, and the cabin is also pleasingly premium, with outstanding sound deadening that delivers a comfortable and quiet feel whenever you’re on the road. The standard specification is impressive, with the Preferred featuring a standard 10-way power driver seat, air con, cloth with Leatherette seat trim, heated front seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, and an excellent 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
The Preferred FWD gets fuel economy ratings of 8.0 L/100 km in the city and 7.6 L/100 km on the highway. The extra capability of AWD doesn’t impose a massive fuel economy penalty as you still get 9.0 L/100 km in the city and 8.3 L/100 km on the highway.
The 2023 Buick Encore GX delivers a premium driving experience that’s ideal for the town or city without a luxury price ticket to go with it. Come and experience the Encore GX for yourself with a test drive from Barber Motors at 1 Government Rd, Weyburn, SK, or call us at (306) 842-6531 for more information and arrange an appointment that fits your schedule.
