The 2022 GMC Yukon is a no-nonsense, full-size SUV based on a truck platform that sees no reason to compromise, and that makes this formidable vehicle suitable for a huge variety of different roles. It doesn’t matter if you need a large family hauler for getting the children to school, a rugged adventure vehicle, or an imposing vehicle to make a big impression around Weyburn, Estevan, Carlyle, Radville and Regina, the 2022 Yukon has got it covered.
There are four trim levels to choose from in the 2022 GMC Yukon lineup, but this year also sees the introduction of a new Denali Black Package which some manufacturers might be tempted to sell as an extra trim level. But putting that to one side, the four trim levels available do cover a reasonably broad spectrum to appeal to a wide variety of different buyers. The entry-level version of the 2022 Yukon is the SLE and from there the range goes to the SLT, AT4, and finally to the fabulously well-equipped and extremely stylish Denali.
A lot of automakers only offer a single engine when it comes to their full-size SUVs, but GMC spoils us for choice with no fewer than three different powerplant choices for the 2022 Yukon. The standard unit for SLE, SLT and AT4 versions of the Yukon is a 5.3-litre V-8 that produces 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque, which is a pretty substantial standard engine even with a vehicle of this size, weight and capability. If that’s not enough for you there’s also the option of a 6.2-litre V-8 which then provides the Yukon with 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque, but you’ll have to go for a Denali to get it as the 6.2 is its standard powerplant.
Apart from the AT4, the other versions of the 2022 GMC Yukon are all also available with the option of a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbodiesel. This engine develops 277 horsepower and a tow-friendly 460 lb.-ft. of torque, but whichever engine you go for, the power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Standard equipment is impressive at every level, but most buyers will probably start at the SLT trim level because it allows you to select from many more available options than you can with the entry-level SLE. Even so, the SLE still comes standard with the likes of tri-zone climate control, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED lights, a 10.2-inch Diagonal Premium GMC Infotainment System, and plenty of active safety features.
As you’d probably expect, the Denali is fabulously luxurious and bristling with a standard kit but there’s still scope to further enhance the specification with options such as a rear camera mirror, adaptive cruise control, Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking, and powered retractable steps. The Denali can now also be upgraded to include the Denali Black Package, which includes a Sport Pedal Cover Kit, Illuminated front and rear door sill plates, black illuminated GMC emblem and nameplates, an illuminated mirror GMC emblem, and 22-inch selective machining Carbon Flash wheels.
The 2022 GMC Yukon is big, brash, stylish, comfortable, imposing and fantastically capable, especially as it can even seat up to a maximum of eight people.
