The 2022 GMC Terrain may be the company’s smallest SUV, but that’s the only area where any compromise can be detected here. This year sees a light refreshing of the Terrain’s front and rear styling, and further enhancements for 2022 include a Tech Package for the AT4 and Denali models, a surround-view camera system, and a head-up display. Wherever you are or where you need to be in Weyburn, Estevan, Carlyle, Radville, and Regina, you and your passengers will enjoy the comfort and style offered by the refreshed GMC Terrain.
Four different trim levels make up the 2022 GMC Terrain lineup, and apart from the entry-level version, every Terrain comes with AWD as part of standard specification, and even the base model can have the extra capability of AWD if preferred. The first and most affordable version of the 2022 GMC Terrain is the SLE, and above that, you then have the SLT, AT4, and finally the range-topping Terrain Denali.
The Terrain’s refreshed front and rear exterior styling make it stand out from other models in its class by delivering an upscale look without the extra cost of some European and Japanese rivals. The exterior of the 2022 Terrain is a stylish combination of glamour, presence, and rugged brawn. There’s also a sporty element thanks to a blacked-out rear pillar that helps create the appearance of a floating roof that’s extremely popular today.
Choosing the powerplant for your new 2022 GMC Terrain couldn’t be more straightforward as GMC uses the same engine across the entire Terrain lineup, even though the base SLE version is available in both front- and all-wheel-drive variants. The SLT, AT4, and Denali models are all exclusively AWD, which leaves you to concentrate on the important business of trim levels, exterior colour, interiors, and available options.
The engine chosen by GMC for the Terrain is a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder that develops 170 horsepower and 203 lb.-ft. of torque, which in every application other than the base model goes to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. The AWD system found in the Terrain is a very simple and user-friendly unit that puts the driver very much in charge. The Terrain’s drivetrain defaults to front-wheel drive for maximum efficiency unless the driver chooses otherwise. But if conditions dictate a need for the extra capability of AWD, it can be instantly activated through a controller mounted on the console.
The SLT is the first model the majority of potential buyers will look at, and it’s an obvious choice if an AT4 or Denali version of the Terrain is pushing your budget a little far or you decide you don’t need the extra features they come with. Standard SLT features include 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lamps, a programmable hands-free power liftgate, ambient lighting, an HD rear vision camera, heated steering wheel, perforated leather seat facings, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Infotainment is incredibly important these days, and in the Terrain, you’ll find an 8.0-inch touchscreen system with Bluetooth audio streaming and phone connectivity that also has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Anyone familiar with GMC and Denali will know that comfort, luxury, and style are to be expected, but these range-topping models also come packed with standard features, and the 2022 GMC Terrain Denali certainly doesn’t let the side down. Standard equipment includes the likes of 19-inch alloy, satellite navigation, an 8-inch diagonal multi-colour reconfigurable driver information screen, adaptive cruise control, heated and ventilated front seats, automatic parking assist, a premium Bose sound system, HD surround vision, and plenty more besides.
If you don’t need something larger, the 2022 GMC Terrain checks all the premium SUV boxes for style, presence, comfort, quality, and desirability.
