The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox is a compact crossover SUV that seats up to five people and still has plenty of space left for cargo. The Equinox is a perennial favourite with many different types of buyers due to its flexibility, versatility, and its affordability. Interior space is generous, crash-test scores are good and standard safety features are plentiful, and the refreshed version of this popular SUV is now better value for money than ever.
This year, this third-generation Equinox benefits from something of a mid-cycle refresh. The exterior gets a reworked front fascia with slimmer headlights and a new grille design for a more contemporary look, but the gentle slopes and gradual curves that have kept this model popular for some time now remain largely unmolested.
Other changes for the new model year include the deletion of the 252-horsepower turbo-four engine and the base L model that was mostly only bought by fleets anyway, but a new RS model has been added to bring a sportier element to the Equinox lineup. Some exterior colours and alloy wheel designs have been replaced with new ones, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility are now standard across the range.
There are four different trim levels and two drivetrains in the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox lineup. The new range starts off with the entry-level LS trim level, which is a front-wheel-drive model in its standard form with AWD available as an option. Next up is the LT which follows the same drivetrain format as the LS, but when you go a level higher to the new RS trim, all-wheel-drive then becomes standard. If you want the highest specification version of the new Equinox, the Premier is the range-topping model which is another one where AWD comes as part of its standard equipment.
All versions of the Equinox now come with the same engine, which is a 1.5-litre turbo-four that develops 170 horsepower and 203 lb.-ft. of torque which is sent to the front or all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. In front-drive form, the Equinox is rated for fuel efficiency by the EPA at 8.9 L/100 km in the city and 7.7 L/100 km on the highway. AWD versions are only slightly less efficient with ratings of 9.4 L/100 km in the city and 8.0 L/100 km on the highway.
The Equinox is well-equipped with standard technology features, such as a Chevrolet Infotainment 3 System with a 7.0-inch diagonal colour touchscreen and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The system can be upgraded to the 3 Plus version with a larger 8.0-inch HD screen and navigation in LT and RS models, while top-of-the-range Premier models come standard with 3 Plus.
The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox builds on what was already a very solid and very popular blueprint with improved standard equipment levels, refreshed styling, and the addition of a sporty new RS trim level.
