Large SUVs are great for long journeys along the CanAm highway or for big family outings to Old Wives Lake, but navigating them around tight spaces in the town or city can be a challenge. If that’s the type of driving you find yourself doing regularly and you don’t need three rows of seats, the 2022 Buick Encore is a great value option you really should check out.
As well as being the perfect size for negotiating the urban jungle or for squeezing into a tight parking space at the Sims Ave Walmart, the Encore also boasts an impressive amount of interior space for such as a small vehicle, good fuel economy, a generous list of standard and available features, and plenty more besides.
Some people might want to claim there are two versions of the 2022 Buick Encore for buyers to choose between at the moment, but that’s only the case if you believe that adding all-wheel-drive to a trim level makes it a separate model in its own right. Essentially then, the Encore is only available in a single trim level of Preferred this year, and that does keep things nice and simple for buyers.
Despite there not being a huge array of different models available, you don’t really need lots of different trim levels if the one that’s on offer is packed with standard features and that’s how it is with the 2022 Encore. Of course, there’s always room for improvement and there are plenty of available options that can allow you to tailor the little Buick to suit your specific requirements.
With this being a single trim level model it would probably be a little unnecessary for there to be more than one engine available to confuse matters, so the Encore sticks with a single 1.4-litre turbo-four that puts out a perfectly capable 138 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft. of torque. That useful amount of power then goes to the front or all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission that’s electronically controlled with overdrive.
If you’re concerned that a small-displacement turbocharged engine might get a little noisy when accelerating hard, especially with a full load on board, you don’t have to worry. The Encore’s engine is reasonably quiet, to begin with, but there’s also some excellent sound deadening that helps to deliver a quiet and comfortable experience for all inside.
Subcompacts like the 2022 Buick Encore need to be good on gas and this one doesn’t disappoint. The Encore is rated at 9.7 L/100 km in the city and 7.3 L/100 km on the highway in standard front-drive form, while the extra capability of all-wheel-drive doesn’t destroy those ratings as you can still expect 10.2 L/100 km in the city and 7.7 L/100 km on the highway.
Even if you do think front-drive and AWD versions of the Encore should be considered different models there’s no difference in specification between them apart from the drivetrain. The standard specification is impressive to say the least, although there’s still enough to be found on the list of the available options to allow you to tailor the 2022 Encore to suit your particular style.
Standard Encore features include the likes of 18-inch alloys wheels, signature LED daytime running lights, air conditioning, 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability, a six-speaker sound system, a 4.2-inch colour driver information centre, a power driver’s seat with six-way adjustment, cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that’s Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible.
The 2022 Buick Encore even performs well in IIHS crash tests, and the NHTSA has awarded the Encore a full five-star rating for overall safety. Standard safety equipment includes 10 airbags, a rear vision camera, rear cross-traffic alert, Side Blind Zone Alert and tire pressure monitors, but you also have the option of adding things like forward collision alert, front and rear park assist and lane departure warning if you want to be even safer.
A lot of people will try and make the vehicle they want or have fit into what they actually need it to do, and not always particularly successfully. If you need something small and nippy but still want the high-riding stance and headroom of an SUV, the 2022 Buick Encore is designed to be just that and more.
Don’t just take our word for it though, come and check out the Buick Encore for yourself today with a test drive from us here at Barber Motors, 1 Government Road, Weyburn, SK.
