What do you do when you already have one of North America’s best and biggest-selling full-size, light-duty pickup trucks? If you’re Chevrolet, the answer appears to be to make it even better and even more desirable. With a lightly refreshed look, revisions to the engine lineup, an all-new off-road-focused ZR2 trim level, 13.4-inch touchscreens, a 12-inch diagonal driver information centre, and the newly available Super Cruise system, there’s never been e better time to factory order a new 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
The trim level lineup for the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is relatively familiar and still covers a huge variety of applications, from affordable work trucks to luxury office on wheels and everything in between. However, the range has been further expanded this year with the addition of the exciting new ZR2 version of the Silverado. This is the first time a ZR2 variant of the truck has ever been offered, and it delivers a package of exterior and chassis enhancements, such as the Multimatic DSSV shock absorbers, to improve the off-road performance and capability of this superb truck.
Trim levels still start with the entry-level WT, but the range now goes from there to the Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTX, ZR2, and finally to the opulent and extremely generously-equipped High Country.
Although the entry-level V-6 engine has now been dropped from the 2022 model year lineup, that means the superb 2.7-litre turbo-four that was previously an upgrade is now the standard engine. This unit puts out an impressive 310 horsepower, but the even better news is that the torque has been increased by 62 lb.-ft. and now comes in at a massive 420 lb.-ft.
If you’d like something even more powerful, there’s still a 5.3-litre V-8 producing 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque that now comes mated exclusively to a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the 6.2-liter V-8 that develops 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. that’s exclusively four-wheel drive and can tow up to 13,300 pounds. The 3.0-litre inline-six turbodiesel is also still available, but thanks to chassis upgrades and a larger rear differential, it can now tow as much as the 6.2-litre V-8.
There are even more advanced features, both standard and available for the Silverado this year, with even the entry-level WT getting an upgrade from manual air-conditioning to a more advanced climate control system. The LT, RST, LTZ, LT Trail Boss, ZR2, and High Country also get updates that include a 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, extra standard safety features, and offer of GM’s superb Super Cruise limited hands-free driver-assist system for High Country models that can even be used when towing.
There are so many different ways to configure a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 as you really can build it into any truck you want, to suit your needs. The best way to do this is by placing a factory order so you can be sure you have all the features you want without necessarily having to pay for things you might not want or need.
The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was already one of the best-selling vehicles in Canada and North America. Still, the enhancements and upgrades for the 2022 model year take this incredible truck to even higher levels of capability and desirability.
