With its rugged and imposing looks, a fabulous three-row interior, superb engines, and an impressive list of standard equipment, the 2022 GMC Acadia really is the complete package. Depending on the way it’s specified, the Acadia can appear rugged, subtle, sporty, or extremely premium; it really is up to you.
Buyers get to choose from four different trim levels with the 2022 GMC Acadia and these four versions open up to the latest Acadia to a wide audience and a range of budgets. The Acadia SLE is an affordable entry point to the range that still comes very generously equipped. The SLE is the only version of the 2022 Acadia that doesn’t come standard with AWD, although you can specify AWD for a little extra.
If you must have AWD you might want to step up to SLT instead because all versions of the Acadia from the SLT upwards have AWD as part of their standard specification. The AT4 is the most rugged, off-road-focused, and capable version of the Acadia, while the Denali more than lives up to its reputation for opulence, desirability, and quality. GMC has also now decided that automatic emergency braking, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, and automatic high beams should now be standard with all versions of the 2022 Acadia.
Even though there are only four trim levels in the 2022 Acadia lineup there are three impressive powerplants for buyers to select from. The first of the trio is a 2.5-litre inline-four that develops 193 horsepower and 188 lb.-ft. of torque and this one is only found under the hood of front-drive versions of the SLE. The second engine is a 2.0-litre turbo-four which is available for the SLE and standard with the SLT, and this one puts out 228 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque.
The third and most powerful engine option for the Acadia is a 3.6-litre V-6 which then gives you 310 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque to play with, and this powerplant is standard with AT4 and Denali versions of the 2022 GMC Acadia. All models and engines send their power to the wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Although the Acadia is billed as a three-row midsize crossover SUV, the interior options and seating capacity are as flexible as you want or need them to be. A six-seat configuration is the standard format for the 2022 GMC Acadia across all trim levels, but the two captain’s chairs in the second row can be replaced with a bench to increase the seating capacity to seven. However, if you don’t want or need a third row of seats you can have your Acadia in a five-seat, two-row configuration by opting for the AT4 trim level, which means the AT4 can be had as a five-, six-, or seven-seat SUV.
With all three rows of seats up and in place you have a generous 362 litres of cargo volume behind them, but that increases to 1,181 litres without the third row and there’s a cavernous 2,237 litres of load space available when the second-row seats are folded down when not in use.
If you’re in the market for a midsize SUV that looks great and does everything you could ask of a family vehicle, but won’t break the bank, it’s hard to fault the 2022 GMC Acadia. Then again, the Acadia is also a great option for anyone without a family to haul who wants plenty of available cargo space and superb all-around utility.
