Whichever way you look at it, the 2022 Buick Enclave is a standout model in its class. This three-row crossover delivers all the versatility, flexibility, and capability you want, along with ample performance and an aura of genuine quality. And unlike the Buick’s European rivals, the price of the Enclave is more likely to make you smile rather than wince.
When it comes to trim levels, the 2022 Buick Enclave follows the company’s current successful blueprint here in Canada of three trim levels and two drivetrains. The entry-level model is the Enclave Essence, but although it comes standard with front-wheel-drive it can be upgraded to AWD. When you get to investigate further you’ll find there’s nothing “base” about this entry-level trim as the specification is as impressive as some rivals’ mid-range models. The mid-range version here is called the Premium, while the top-of-the-range model is the very nicely appointed Avenir.
Although this isn’t a new generation of the Enclave, the exterior sees significant changes that include a new front fascia, hood and grille, new LED headlights and daytime running lights, a new rear fascia with a little more chrome, and three exciting new exterior colour options.
A vehicle of this size that’s designed to transport up to seven people and a good amount of cargo too is going to need a powerful engine, especially when fully loaded. There’s only one engine available across all three trim levels, but it’s a tried and tested unit that provides all the power and performance you need. The unit in question is a 3.6-litre V-6 that puts out a very capable 310 horsepower and 266 lb.-ft. of torque, which is then sent to the front or all four wheels through a nine-speed electronically controlled transmission with overdrive and Driver Shift Control that delivers smooth, effortless automatic shifting.
Because this luxury three-row midsize crossover SUV borders on being classified as a full-size model it has one of the most spacious interiors in its class. There’s more to the inside of the 2022 Buick Enclave than just a lot of room for up to seven people though. The Enclave’s interior screams quality with top-grade materials throughout, and it also boasts the kind of flexibility a family vehicle simply has to offer to be considered a contender these days. There’s also a new look for the interior that includes a restyled centre console and steering wheel, unique Avenir interior trim elements and patterns, revised seats for extra comfort, and the introduction of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
The driver and front passenger seats offer excellent adjustment and they’re heated in all three versions of the Enclave, while Premium and Avenir models also get heated second-row seats as part of their standard specification. Other new features to look out for this year include a new standard front camera, a second-generation full-display Rear Camera Mirror with available Surround Vision, a new head-up display for premium and Avenir trims, and a new Electronic Transmission Range Select controller.
The 2022 Buick Enclave delivers everything buyers want from a three-row midsize crossover SUV, but it also delivers a big helping of luxury along the way. Perhaps the best news is this luxury model doesn’t come with the kind of premium price many might expect, especially the entry-level Enclave Essence, which looks and feels about as far away from a base model as it gets.
